Here's an interesting new virus I came across yesterday when visiting one of my favourite sites. It's quite an official looking set-up and I'm sure that many people have been fooled into downloading this virus in the mistaken belief that they are actually protecting their machine - decidedly devious!
When I attempted to log on to the site a window flashed up to 'warn' me that my machine was at risk and suggested that I should immediately download the scan to check for virus'. When I attempted to close the window, a new screen came up showing that their 'scan' had located hundreds of virus' (see 1st attachment screenshot) and suggesting that I needed to download their 'anti virus protection' (see 2nd attachment screenshot).
I may have been fooled into downloading this virus if I hadn't been absolutely sure that there was no way my computer would allow a Windows application to pop up on my Linux machine!
Having discussed this with other users of the site and also the site staff, we believe it is from a random advert that has the virus embedded in it. Just lately we have had quite a few machines coming into the shop with this virus accidentally downloaded, so remember - the virus scan IS the virus, and be careful out there!

Anti-Virus 2009 is one of the worst malwares out there, once it gets onto your machine it is hard to get off.
